How does affiliate tracking software work?

It gives each partner a unique link and coupon code, records every click and redemption against them, then matches the resulting sale back and calculates the commission. Referly stores each click with its device, country, referrer and UTM data, holds the attribution for the length of your cookie window, and reads the sale straight from Stripe, Shopify or whichever platform took the payment.

What if someone buys with a coupon code instead of a link?

It still attributes. Referly creates a personal discount code for the partner inside Stripe, Shopify or WooCommerce, and any order that redeems it is credited to them with no click involved. This is how podcast reads, YouTube mentions and Instagram stories get tracked, and coupon code tracking is on every plan including the entry one.

How long does a sale stay credited to a partner?

60 days by default, and you can set it from 1 day to a full year per program. Inside the window, anything that visitor buys credits the partner even if they return directly instead of clicking again. Outside it, the sale attributes to nobody.

What happens to the commission when a customer refunds?

The reward reverses automatically. A refunded sale flips to Refunded and drops out of the next payout, and recurring commissions stop when the subscription does. You never chase a partner for money back.

Does this work with Shopify as well as Stripe?

Yes, and with both at once. Referly tracks Shopify orders and coupon codes alongside Stripe subscriptions and renewals in the same program. Most affiliate software in this price range cannot: Rewardful supports Stripe or Paddle only, and Refersion and UpPromote are ecommerce only.

How do you stop partners referring themselves?

Referly matches the partner's email and IP against the new customer's on every referral, and flags proxy and VPN traffic on the click. A match either holds the reward for review or rejects it outright, whichever you set per program. Fraud prevention is on every plan.

Can I move an existing program to Referly?

Yes, and migration is free on every plan. Referly imports partners, referrals and rewards by CSV, or directly from Rewardful, FirstPromoter, Tolt, Tapfiliate, PartnerStack, Trackdesk, Partnero and Dub, so partners keep their links and history.

Do I need a developer to install it?

Usually not. Stripe connects with OAuth, Shopify installs as an official app, and coupon code tracking needs no code at all. The tracking script is one line if you want click data from your own site, and a REST API and webhooks are there for custom setups on Business and above.
